So, you’ve just moved into your beautiful new home in Cypress Green, what are you going to do with all those empty moving boxes? Turns out, there are a lot of things you can do. Here are 10 of them:
Sell Them
Want to do something easy and make some money? You can sell your gently used boxes. BoxCycle connects box buyers with box sellers so everyone wins. Are you on NextDoor? Let your new neighbors know you have moving boxes for sale.
Donate or Give Them Away
If the boxes are still in good condition, consider donating them to local charities, schools or community centers for use in art projects or storage. Alternatively, give them a good home with friends and relatives. You can also join the Freecycle Network, a non-profit organization whose mission is to keep useable items out of garbage dumps. List your moving boxes there.
Recycle
If all else fails, make sure to recycle the boxes. Many municipalities offer curbside recycling for cardboard, or you can take them to a local recycling center.
Packaging Material
Shred the cardboard into strips or pieces to use as eco-friendly packaging material for shipping or storing fragile items.
Kids’ Playhouse
Transform the boxes into a makeshift playhouse for children. They can decorate it with crayons, paint or stickers to personalize their own space.
Pet Projects
If you have furry friends, you can create pet homes for them. Construct a multi-level cat castle by stacking and connecting boxes. Larger boxes make great temporary dog houses for Fido. Cut holes for doors and windows and add blankets or cushions for comfort.
Art Projects
Use the cardboard as a canvas for art projects. Paint or draw on them, cut them into interesting shapes or even create a collage.
Garden Uses
Convert the cardboard into a compost bin for your garden. The cardboard provides carbon-rich material that balances out nitrogen-rich kitchen scraps. Flatten boxes and use them to kneel on while gardening. Smaller boxes can be used as temporary planters.
Insulation
Use flattened cardboard boxes as temporary insulation for windows during the colder months. They can help keep out drafts and retain heat.
DIY Furniture
Get creative and build your own furniture pieces like shelves, bedside tables or even a desk using the sturdy cardboard boxes as the base structure.
